Working at Galilee

Summer Positions:

If you have an appetite for adventure and want to make a difference in a child’s life, Galilee could be the place for you! Galilee is an Episcopal camp that offers a meaningful and adventure-filled program for campers ages 7 to 16. While working at Galilee you will become an active part of creating a safe, fun, and welcoming community for staff, counselors, and campers.

As a staff or counselor at Galilee, you will gain experience:

  • Leading overnight hikes, including cooking and camping as a group
  • Leading groups in rock climbing and kayaking
  • Working with others in a shared leadership model
  • Reflecting upon and evaluating the program and your own experiences
  • Working and living in a welcoming Christian community

Positions available Summer 2012:

Counselor – must be at least 16 years old and have completed the 10th grade

This is a great opportunity to learn more about being an effective leader and group member while enjoying summer time in Tahoe. After successful completion of our counselor training program, you will be assigned a week (or weeks) to help lead a group along with two other leaders.

Counselor Job Description

To apply for Counselor Training:

Fill out the Application Form and give Reference Forms to three references (teachers, employers, clergy, etc. – not relatives).

Resident Staff – must be at least 18 years old and have graduated from high school (a year of college or work experience preferred)

As a resident staff at Galilee, you will be an essential part of the summer program and have opportunities to contribute to the goals and themes of each session in addition to facilitating the day-to-day experiences of the groups. You will also attend a staff training, be a part of our counselor training program, and act as a role model for campers and counselors throughout the summer.

Lifeguard certification is required. Galilee provides free lifeguard training June 4-9. If already a lifeguard, you may arrive on June 11, for staff training. The summer camp season runs through August 4.

Priority deadline for applications March 16th. Applications received after March 16th will be considered on a space-available basis.

Compensation: $250/week for 8 weeks plus housing and the best (mostly local and organic!) food around.
